If you want to succeed online in the new AI internet age — you need an audience.

I learned this the hard way post-covid when my business collapsed.

Before that I had always made money without an audience (for 15-years in fact).

So arrogantly I launched my new business the same way I always had, with no audience.

It failed.

What I took 15+ years to realise

What I realised in that moment was if I wanted to sell my product or service online (and succeed) I needed two levers working for me:

• Attention
• Distribution

Attention will bring eyeballs to you and what you have to offer (course, coaching, software, digital service, professional service, physical service…)

Distribution is how easily you can market and sell what you have to offer (and actually make money online, not just be an ‘influencer’ and have followers for the sake of it).

Building an audience online unlocks both attention and distribution.

They knew it all along

This is a secret the likes of The Rock, Kendal Jenner and Ryan Reynolds have tapped into with their tequila, make-up and financial app.

I’m not a celeb

Building an audience is not just for A-list celebs.

Let’s face it we’re not celebrities!

So I asked “how does this works for mere-mortals?”

And I found others making a killing thanks to having an audience:

• Mr Beast
• Logan Paul
• KSI
• Emma Chamberlain

They’ve launched – chocolate, sports drinks, coffee.

Will it work for me though?

But I was still suspicious. Could I really do what they have done?

(I’m not laser focused like Mr Beast and I’m certainly not charismatic like KSI!).

But before I poo-poo’d the idea of audience once and for all I started to see people I’ve never heard of before make millions online thanks to their audience:

• Dan Koe
• Nick Huber
• Kevin Espiritu
• Codie Sanchez

They launched useful products and services – garden products, software, business services, online education and more.

And these were ‘normal’ people getting extraordinary results thanks to having an audience.

Simple but not easy

Building an audience is hard (I know it is, I spent the last year figuring it out!) — because more and more people are understanding the power of having an audience.

More and more everyday people are entering the game.

What’s worked for me

I went from internet ghost to having…drum roll…

15k Audience on X (Twitter)

I first started on Elon Musk’s X (Twitter) platform where I turned digital writing into an audience of just under 15k.

Then turned that into an stable income (that would would help most people happily quit their jobs).
